Filling Up and Heading Out

If you had an unlimited supply of gas, where would you go? Is there a place in your dreams you have been dying to see, that you can arrive to by car only? I filled my tank up on my lunch break the other day. My car told me I had 400 miles till empty. The first thing I thought of was what direction do I want to go in and see where I end up? Of course I headed back to work instead. It got me thinking though; wouldn't that be a fun vacation with your girlfriends or significant other? To just jump in the car, fill it up and flip a coin to see which direction you were going to head?

I'm a lover of road trips, so is my husband so it works out well. We usually always think of how we can get somewhere by road tripping. You get to see so much more and sometimes the trip to your destination gives you just as many memories as the destination itself.

This idea just really stuck with me through the afternoon and I caught myself thinking of which direction I would head in? If I had two weeks and no plans which way would I head first? What time of year would be the best to road trip? Living in the heart of the country either direction will bring me to something new, also it takes more than one day to reach one coast or the other.

I'm thinking this should be on my bucket list of things to do in my 30s. Since we have done a few road trips down south through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, I'm thinking I would like to head west. Possibly northeast, it really doesn't matter because there is no right or wrong and no plans set to determine when and where I need to be somewhere. Just a specific date I need to be home, because you know there's that life I would have to get back to.

You could end up anywhere, maybe even places you wouldn't have thought existed, or maybe in places you wish you never knew existed. Maybe you end up in really sketchy areas and stay in "no-tell-motels" as my husband likes to refer to them as. Or maybe the only room available is $200.00 a night. It doesn't matter; you figure it out as you go along.

What would be in my arsenal: Camera, GPS, tripod, iTunes, maybe even a map, Nate, a tent in case we come across a place to set it up or we run out of money for hotels and one suitcase. I mean you could always swing by a laundry mat for an hour or two if you're desperate.

I would take time to pull over and take pictures or just take in the sights. Maybe pull over and go wandering in a creek or find the nearest Mom and Pop diner that only serves one size of malt.

Would I miss my kids? That kind of goes without saying but at this age they like the knowing of the when we will be arriving and where we are going and this isn't about that. I don't think I would get the full effect if we had to accommodate them. Plus they would be having all sorts of adventures at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Where would you go? Maybe this isn't something that peaks your interest. Maybe your bucket list of adventures includes all-inclusive resorts and spas. Trust me I have some on my list too. this though, this requires that small need for adventure and I think Nate and I are always seeking that, what a great way to fill that need together.
