This is Cece's second season playing soccer in our town's soccer club. She was apprehensive last season when she first started, but once she figured out that other people were beating her, well it kind of clicked for her and she became a very aggressive player. It proabably helps that she is a runner by nature, which is obviously helpful in soccer.
This season she is still in the U6 program, since her birthday was after the cutoff for U8. This makes her one of the oldest players in her program. However, she is not much bigger than the other players. This is not suprising since we don't make very tall children.
Yesterday was her first game and she didn't stop moving while she was on the field. Not only did she score many of her teams goals for the game but you could tell she has started to understand the fundamentals of the game. When the other team started for her goal, she would run to gaurd their goal (they only play 3 on 3 and don't have positions). She would fall back when the ball was in play and was surronded by other players, once the ball would be kicked out of the group of kids she would get in behind it and dribble it down for a goal. She is playing smart and I think that is what Nate and I were most proud of yesterday. We don't really care about how many goals she makes but that she learns how to be a team player. They don't keep score in U6 but most parents do in their heads, we won.
However, no matter who won, we live in a small town and we know most of the kids she is playing with or against and you can hear both team's cheering on the other kids, this inlcudes parents as well. Sometimes you don't know if the person sitting next to you is for your team or the other because everyone claps when each team scores or plays well. I like this type of sportsmanship I know as both kids grow older and if they continue into sports this might not always be the case, but I guess I will enjoy it now.
